This is the third part of a series produced by 1 Granary and Sarabande: The Lee Alexander McQueen Foundation Philip Rouse. I am sure it is worth looking up the other two in the series. Definitely, if you are just out of school, you need to think strategically about how to get your ideas in front of buyers and how to approach potential buyers and customers. Design schools teach you the skills to be a designer, not a run a business. You need both skill sets to be successful.
I have been working with Fashion Group International Seattle region for the last three years mentoring fashion entrepreneurs and all have needed basic business skills. Every student thinking about starting their own line would do well to take some business classes and find a mentor in the industry.
